In pursuance of its objectives, the Institute has maintained both formal and informal contacts with sugar estates, large and small scale sugarcane farmers, investors in the sugar industry, other institutions, such as the National Sugar Development Council, the Raw Material Research and Development Council. The institute also collaborates with Scientists in other Agricultural Research Institutes in and outside Nigeria. Through these contacts, the Institute has made remarkable contributions to solving the agricultural problems of sugarcane production in Nigeria and it has also made modest progress in the area of sugarcane breeding and varietal improvement. The Institute has also had useful inputs into the formulation of National sugar policy.
