The Annonaceae or custard apple family comprises about 120 genera and more than 2000 species. The genus Annona is the most economically important one, containing 120 species. The major commercial species throughout the world are: the cherimoya (Annona cherimola), custard apple (Annona squamosa) and atemoya (a hybrid of Annona squamosa and Annona cherimola), ramphal (Annona reticulata) soursop (Annona muricata) and pond apple (Annona glabra).The regular season crop of annona under Bangalore conditions coincides with South West monsoon season that is in August; therefore the quality of fruits is affected because of the rains. off season production of annona fruits before mansoon period, the growers would be able to get better market, price and profitability.
