Excerpt from Fourteenth Annual Report of the Receipts and Expenditures of the Town of Hyde Park: With Reports of the Selectmen, Trustees of the Public Library and Other Town Officers, for the Year Ending January 31st, 1882

Instructions were given the police to notify all persons so engaged, of this decision of the selectmen, and to discontinue any further sales of spirituous liquors.

After due notice thus given the most energetic and continuous efforts were made to suppress illegal sales, and it is believed with a Very fair measure of success. The difficulties however of Obtaining; the proofs necessary for conviction have been increased by recent legislation.

Formerly the paraphernalia of a drinking shop - beer pumps, &c., was in itself evidence, but, by the law allowing the sale of drinks containing not over 3 per cent. Of alcohol, the fittings of a saloon are no longer evidence.
