Biotechnological research have generated several legal, social and ethical issues. It was argued that since its basic research material is product of nature it is not qualified as a subject matter of patents. Moreover, the physical similarity of natural products and biotechnological products have been questioned. Number of other inter-related social and scientific institutions raised voice on its working. The advent of biotechnology necessitated that patent laws to be suitably modified to bridge the gap of principles of patent and science and technology.
