Mosquito-borne diseases, such as malaria, yellow fever, dengue, West Nile and Zika virus are of huge medical and veterinary importance. The control of arboviral diseases, particularly dengue and Zika virus, sadly lacks in reliable and effective treatments of the infection, therefore vector control still plays pivotal importance. On the other hand, the overuse of synthetic insecticides led to several public health and ecological problems, including environmental pollution, effects on non-target organisms, as well as development of resistance in targeted vectors.
