O knihe

We conducted a literature review taking into account all the publications and theses available on Plasmodium/HIV co-infection in the world in general and particularly in Africa from 1985 to 2015, a period of 30 years. During our study we found 4 theses and 31 original articles on Plasmodium/HIV co-infection in 18 countries. These studies included 11664 patients that we classified according to several criteria. Our results showed that studies on co-infection were more frequent in West Africa with 14.3%. The year 2014 was the most represented with five studies (14.7%). Prospective studies were the most frequent (74.3%). Most studies were conducted in urban areas in 88.6% of cases followed by 11.4% of cases in rural areas. Severe malaria was found in 54.4% of patients. CD4 count and viral load >350/mm3 were found in 45.2% and 57.7% of our patients respectively.
