Global concern about adverse climate conditions is focusing renewed attention on energy demand management. Africa is in the spotlight of this concern considering its rapidly increasing energy demand propelled by population and income growth. Effectively harnessing current and future energy demand growth is critical for ensuring the region¿s sustainable development. And improving the efficiency of energy use is a viable, cost-effective means of doing so. This book discusses the interesting linkage between energy efficiency and energy demand while highlighting the enormous environmental and economic co-benefits associated with improving the efficiency of energy usage in African countries. It further draws lessons from energy demand management initiatives in Africa and empirically establishes a case for the role of energy efficiency in managing energy demand among 29 selected African countries.
