O knihe
A queer mytho-history of ancient Ireland.
Finalist for the 2020 LAMBDA Literary Award in Transgender Fiction.
Long ago, when Ireland was ruled by poets and tribal chieftains, the druid Sinnach was advisor to the chieftain of Munster. His judgments were balanced; his power poetic. Yet he kept hidden a potent secret: he was not always a man.
As a child Sinnach fled persecution by his tribe into the welcoming wilderness, taking refuge in a life of solitude, freedom, and hunger. But the goddess Ériu tasked him with more than just healing from his traumatic past; the very cause of his banishment would prove to be the source of his greatest power. A transformation must occur, and for that he would dedicate his life to the study of the druidic arts. As he came into mastery, Sinnach was given a choice: to remain a scholar in safety at the periphery of society, or to become highest amongst poets at the center of Munster's tribal politics.
Turbulent currents of love would draw him deeper into human affairs, and yet an enchanted tryst with a Faerie woman tangled his fate and forever changed his people's future. As druid he served the liminal role of diplomat between the tribes and the Otherworld, but Sinnach's nature itself defied duality: was he peasant or noble? Master or fool? Healer or healing? Man or woman?
Inspired by the great mythological epics of ancient Ireland, this is a new myth that tells very old truths about who we were, who we are, and who we might become.
