Most academic (and even technical) programmes nowadays require students to undertake a project or research study; this comes up towards the terminal point in their programme of study. Because this task is dissimilar to the typical pattern of their erstwhile study efforts, which consisted mainly of course work followed by a written examination, the task usually presents them as a considerable difficulty. The reason being that there are usually no textbooks to consult on this particular aspect of their work, unlike the regular subjects.
