As a result of the challenges of the manual method of taking attendance in schools and colleges in Nigeria, an automated attendance system needs to be adopted. The challenges include difficulty in keeping the attendance list over a long period of time, unnecessary time wastage during writing or signing, improper documentation, students forgetting to write or sign the attendance paper, lecturers forgetting the attendance list in the classroom, students writing or signing illegally for an absentee among others.
