Sweet potato (Ipomoea batatas (L.) Lam.) is an important starchy food crop grown throughout the tropical and sub-tropical parts of the world. It is a herbaceous, perennial vine cultivated as an annual belongs to family Convolvulaceae.Sweet potato is a cross-pollinated, hexaploid plant (2n=6x=90). The flesh colour of sweet potato varies from white, cream, yellow to dark-orange and purple depending upon the pigment. The major carotenoid pigment present in the orange-fleshed sweet potato is ß-carotene which is a precursor of vitamin A and is an essential micronutrient for normal immune function of the human beings. Hence, orange flesh sweet potato roots are used to tackle vitamin A deficiency, a major health problem among rural population in most developing countries. Besides, good agronomic practices some advanced crop improvement techniques like application of plant growth substances and appropriate plant protection measures ought to be essentially followed in order to increase the productivity of sweet potato.A wide range of PGRs are used in sweet potato among all GA3, CCC and 2,4-D can be effectively helpful for improving growth,flowering, yield and quality of sweet potato.
