O knihe

The palatine tonsils are lymphoepithelial tissues that are strategically located at the entrance of the upper aerodigestive tract for immune protection against ingested and inhaled foreign pathogens as a police man of the throat. Enlargement and infectious diseases of tonsils are accounted for most of the children's illnesses. Surgical removal of the tonsils is the treatment of choice, being of the procedure more commonly performed. On the other hand, fatty acids and secretory phospholipase A2 play major part in growth regulation, differentiation and inflammation. Based on the findings of this study, serum sPLA2 activity and tonsillar fatty acid composition were various in tonsillar diseases. Then, they have an important biochemical role in tonsillar disorders and may be considered as supportive diagnostic markers to differentiation of them.
