The liver is the essential organ that, performing crucial functions in the body. It plays a major task in regulating the interior environment of the body and also metabolises chemicals by several metabolic routes such as oxidation, reduction, hydration, condensation, hydrolysis, conjugation, or isomerization. Hepatotoxicity is rapidly becoming a primary cause of death worldwide, and its prevalence is growing substantially. Hepatotoxicity is caused by a wide variety of environmental pollutants, pathogenic microorganisms, viruses, drugs such as NSAIDS, anti-TB, anti-cancer, anaesthetics, chemicals including CCL4, DEN, alcohol, natural products like aflatoxin-B, and heavy metals including arsenic, mercury, cadmium, and lead all of which cause several ailments associated with liver such as jaundice, necrosis, fibrosis, cirrhosis and hepatitis. They are primarily caused by the administration of excessive amounts of chemicals and certain medicines. There is no presence of efficacious medicine in the market that accelerates liver function, serve to safe-guard the liver from impairment and aid in regeneration of hepatic cells.
