Percutaneous cholecystostomy as a modality of treatment for severe acute cholectstitis in critically ill patients. It is a well recognised treatment modality with drastic improvement in clinical symptoms.The study included patients with gallbladder empyema/mucocele and poor surgical candidates/high risk patients with acute calculous / acalculous cholecystitis/emphysematous cholecystitis and patients with acute cholangitis with failed ERCP and PTC, regardless of age and gender. Ultrasound abdomen was utilised to determine size, contents and wall-thickness of gallbladder and status of hepatobiliary system. Patients qualifying for the study were subjected to Percutaneous cholecystostomy underultrasound guidance. Other relevant investigations were done as routine baseline. Outcome was excellent. INCLUSION CRITERIA o All patients having gall bladder empyema. o Poor risk surgical patients with gallbladder mucocele.
