O knihe
Diseases of the salivary gland constitute an important role in the field of oral and maxillofacial surgery. Soft tissue trauma to the maxillofacial complex may involve salivary structures. The relative incidence of injury to the salivary structures is low. Injury to the parotid gland or ducts or both is usually a result of soft tissue trauma located posterior to the anterior border of the massetter muscle along a plane from the tragus of the ear to the middle of the upper lip. Parotid duct injury is frequently associated with damage to adjacent soft tissue structures such as the facial nerve. Soft tissue injury in the floor of the mouth or beneath the mandible can damage the submandibular or sublingual glands. Oral cavity depicts many pathological processes from the ubiquitous collection of tissue. Proper understanding of these disease processes is a must for a precise diagnosis of these conditions. Several times, the differential diagnosis of the oral lesion includes the diseases of the salivary glands. Thus a thorough knowledge of their anatomy, physiology, diseases, their etiopathogenesis, differential diagnosis investigations and treatment is required.
