In recent times, advocacy groups and Non-Governmental Organizations tried to bring people's attention to oil conflict and violence against the women in the Niger Delta region of Nigeria without effort directed to strengthen the silence danger of intimate partner violence. Intimate partner violence is interpreted as a reviling or reproachful behaviour in a closely acquainted relationship which involves current or former partner/husband, boyfriend/girl friend, including those that are co-habiting.Globally, statistics showa that 60% of women have been abused; 10-60% of women have been assaulted by their intimate partners. Niger Delta region of Nigeria which is the study area of this book produces 95% of the oil and gas and this region is the main oil generating region in Nigeria. Despite the fact that 95% of the oil and gas comes from this region,Niger Delta region suffers from neglect, poverty, unemployment, poor infrastructure and services, squalor, filth and endemic conflict. Thus, this region is noted for insurgency, kidnapping, hostage taking, crude oil theft, violence and gang wars. The ecological model is used in this book to explain violence against women.
