O knihe

The notable bacterial disease of potato and onion is soft rot and affected by the disease during storage and transit of the harvested crops (Rich 1983). Effect of the disease is more pronounced in the developing countries where appropriate storage facilities are lacking. Development of suitable and environment friendly control measures of soft rot causing bacteria may minimize the loss in storage and improve the quality of potato and onion. In Bangladesh research works on the soft rot of those crops are scanty and no effective control measures have been developed for control soft rot. Considering the above facts the study was done to characterize and identify soft rot causing bacterial pathogens and to find out effective control measures. It was found that antagonistic bacteria; botanicals and chemical treatments were effective to control the disease of potato and onion in vitro and in storage and it may be instrumental in designing strategies for soft rot disease control, essential to ensuring global food security. The book should be useful to the students, teachers and researchers in the field of Plant Pathology, advanced growers and traders of potato and onion worldwide.
