Among the II-VI semiconductors ZnS shows various luminescence properties such as photoluminescence, electroluminescence, mechanoluminescence and thermoluminescence, which enable it to be used in the fields of optical displays. ZnS doped with transition metals and rare earths exhibits attractive light-emitting properties with increased optically active sites for novel diverse applications, including light-emitting diodes (LEDs), sensors, lasers, electroluminescence, flat panel displays, infrared windows and bio devices besides spintronic applications.PVP capped pure, Ni doped and Ni & Cu co-doped ZnS nanoparticles were synthesized using chemical co-precipitation method at room temprature and systematically characterized the material using structural, morphological, optical, magnetic and electrical studies.
