O knihe

Subjectivity: The Hidden and Neglected Side of Human Nature addresses the important issue of psychology's failure to embrace subjectivity to any great extent. The book also takes up the challenge of formalizing a subjective science based on living data and sure intuition, as suggested by D.H Lawrence.

Philosophical and theological understandings of the nature of "being" are explored, as is the emergence of the subjective viewpoint in literature. Both indicate that something has been lacking in our recent understanding of what it is to be fully human.

The emergence of subjectivity in psychoanalysis and a psychological reading of Martin Buber's book on existence, I and Thou, are used to indicate possible future directions.

Kenneth Bragan grew up in a small coal mining town near Newcastle in northern England. He now lives in the Lakes District of the south island of New Zealand. He graduated in medicine at Edinburgh University and trained as a psychiatrist in New Zealand. During his thirty years of psychiatric practice, he developed a particular interest in the healing power of writing. He is working on his next book Is There Still a Place for God.
