Rabindranath Tagore (1861-1941) was one of the major literary figures of the world, attempting different genres of literature and art with equal efficiency. Even after seventy years of his expiry, he is as relevant as he was during his life time. Soon after his 'Gitanjali' was translated into English in 1912, he was widely read and accepted in the West. During his life time, he visited as many as thirty countries. His compositions were translated into different languages. Germany was one the countries to receive him most passionately. He visited the country thrice. Most importantly, all his three visits took place during a period of democratic environment. His many important works were translated into German language and even during the hard days of the war devastated economy, German publishers continued his publications and the readers responded in a positive way. A great relationship existed between Tagore and German people, readers, publishers and scholars. His relations with great scholars and other distinguished personalities have become an aspired after area of literary concentration. This particular book is an attempt to throw some light on the issues referred to.
