Unlike international humanitarian organisations, the African Union considers food security from a development perspective, due to its status as a political organisation. It therefore has a framework of public policies which forms the basis of its action to promote food security in Africa. This framework incorporates the political and strategic guidelines laid down by the political authorities. However, the abundance of political discourse on food security within this organisation is not convincing enough about the effectiveness of its action on the ground.
