Marge Ledbetter receives information from a woman on her death bed that could change the entire dynamics of the Dahlonega Sisters. Never one to act on gossip, she keeps it to herself until she can prove or disprove the outrageous tale. The only way to confirm the information is to spit in a bottle, a disgusting thing for anyone to do, much less a sixty-five year old woman. Ashley, her favorite of the three college students staying with her, encourages Marge to send off the ancestry DNA.
When Marge's recently married twin, Mutzi Parks, learns she's digging into their ancestry, she storms out of the house. All her life people have doubted that she and Marge are related, much less twins. She can't understand why Marge wants to stir up something she knows is best left alone.
Mutzi's husband, Sam, brings home more than just a new prosthetic leg from the nearby VA medical center in Gainesville, Georgia. The overly generous man invites a homeless, former felon, to stay with them, much to Mutzi's anxious displeasure. While Sam knows about the man's painted past, he doesn't share it with his wife, but he's not the only one keeping secrets.
Rose Ellen returns to Dahlonega from Italy with Roberto, the Italian smooth-talking museum curator she met when she tried to unravel the mystery around the gold miner ring. There'd been such a fuss about town when a rumor started about it being stolen from the gold museum. Mutzi, the one who really took it in the first place, managed to resolve the confusion last year.
The 70th birthday celebration Mutzi and Marge planned for their older sister, Rose Ellen, turns out to be a spectacular gala fit for the queen. From the luxurious décor to the catered food, she marvels at the effort her sisters put forth. The evening ends with April, her near-forty daughter, announces she's pregnant. Then, Roberto bends on one knee and asks her to marry him. During the joyful chaos, she slips off her gold miner ring and hands it to someone standing next to her. When she realizes it was Chuck, Sam's felonious guest, she fears she'll never see it again.
Brandi, one of the college students, manages to get her and Chuck a job at the Consolidated Gold Mine. When the smooth-talking manager puts moves on the inexperienced young woman, she refuses his advancements and ends up near death in the mine. Chuck finds her just when the mine wall collapses and buries him in a compromising situation.
Chuck ends up in jail (again) when Domenic frames him for her injuries and stealing jewels from the gold mine. While Brandi recovers from her amnesia, the Dahlonega sisters go to work to prove that Domenic, not Chuck, is the villain. A grateful Chuck tells the women he's met a few folks with hearts of gold, but they have veins of gold.
The celebration of life Marge plans for the twin's birthday shocks everyone when she announces that Mutzi is not her twin. She's a triplet. Chuck is their brother, who stolen at birth.
