O knihe

This book is about introducing indigenous knowledge systems to schools. Indigenous knowledge systems and practises have been ignored for a long time. When European powers colonised the world they replaced indigenous knowledge systems with western knowledge because they thought that indigenous knowledge systems were outdated and could not offer anything towards the development of their colonies. The Eurocentric curriculum was introduced to schools that were also established by the colonial powers. This made it easy for the western ways of doing things to gradually replace the indigenous ways of doing things. Indigenous learners and students started looking down on their knowledge systems and culture. After independence African leaders started realising that western trained graduates could not solve the day to day problems of their communities because they were train to solve problems in advanced western countries. Problems in developing countries were different from problems in developed countries. African leaders then realised that it was important to introduce indigenous knowledge system in schools so that these systems could work hand in hand with western Knowledge.
