O knihe

This work focuses on the ways in which the Devil is presented in contemporary Brazilian literature specifically in the short stories The Guest, by Frei Betto, Eu and Bebu at the neutral hour of dawn, by Rubem Braga, Alma, vendo and Belzebu.com, by Luis Fernando Veríssimo, Lenin descends into hell, by Paulo Coelho and Nostalgia do amor ausente, by Walmor Santos. In the search for the attainment of the proposed goal we researched the three main ways in which Satan appears in literature and theology, which are presented in the first three chapters: the face of an angel, the face of a beast, and the human face. In the fourth chapter the above mentioned tales are analyzed focusing on which of the faces proposed in the research the Devil is presented. It was also verified that this character has gone through several metamorphoses throughout history and, although he has lost the power to impose fear, he is still important in the theological environment as well as one of the greatest characters in literature of all times.
