O knihe

Site selection is the first step. Indeed, information on potential sites for hydropower plants, especially for DRC Micro-grid hydropower plants is available but could be unavailable or unreliable in some rural areas and outdated, unlike in developed countries where most potential sites for medium and large hydropower plants are already well known. However, energy is an economic sector of prime importance, which includes the production, transport, transformation, distribution and marketing of various sources of energy. It is the engine of sustainable development in that it undoubtedly conditions the overall recovery of green economic activity and in particular the green industrialization of National Energy. The DRC is the second biggest and fourth most populated country in Africa, which spreads over 2,3million km² with a population of 78.7 million with capacity of 100 GW of hydropower on 890 hydropower sites, with 2.9 TW on Congo River itself. (Source: DRC Energy Atlas, 2016). Yet the DRC has one of the lowest rates of electrification in the world. Only approximately 10% of the population has access to electricity, 35% in urban areas (44% in Kinshasa) and less than 1% in rural areas.
