O knihe
Frank Preston Stearns (1846-1917) was a writer and abolitionist from Massachusetts during the 19th century. His works include The Life and Genius of Nathaniel Hawthorne and The Life and Public Services of George Luther Stearns. Stearns introduced himself to prominent people and found their acquaintance gave him a more elevated idea of human nature than otherwise might have been acquired. Nathaniel Hawthorne was a 19th century short story writer and novelist. The Scarlet Letter is his most famous novel. The years Hawthorne spent in England were some of his happiest and most trying. President Pierce appointed Hawthorne United States Consul at Liverpool. He held this post for four years. The time Hawthorne spent in public office gave him a chance to leave writing and observe the world.
