Aedin is instructed to protect the girl's life at any cost. A major battle ensues against orcs. Aedin and his newfound friend become the victors, and this is just the first of many battles the two will fight as comrades. Aedin, whose elven mother and human father disappeared ten years ago, learns that the large man is Edwin, a human charged with protecting Anbelise, heir to the elven throne of Glaelien.
