In 1845, the Committee of the Medical School requested me to fulfil my promise. The Lectures were given. In the course of the same year their publication in the Medical Gazette was commenced, and in 1847 was completed.

It has been thought desirable that these Lectures, scattered at irregular intervals in the columns of the Gazette, should be collected; and, after undergoing such revision and amendment as my leisure and Opportunities afford, be published in the pre sent form.
