The acute toxicity of Di-(2 Ethylhexyl) Phthalate (DEHP) was studied on liver enzymes of adult male albino rats (Rattus norvegicus) and the recovery was done using celery seed extract. Di-(2 Ethylhexyl) Phthalate (DEHP) is a common plasticizer used to make the plastic products more flexible. It is quite harmful as tested on other animal models and is carcinogenic too. The liver is the major organ for detoxification in body and is therefore damaged first due to intake of any toxicants. The liver enzymes are good parameter to assess any hepatic damage. The plasticizer DEHP was administered orally to a group of adult male albino rats and the liver enzymes alkaline phosphatase, acid phosphatase, alanine transaminase, aspartate transaminase and lactate dehydrogenase were measured. The research showed that there was decrease in ALP and ACP levels in blood, while there was increase in ALT and AST after treatment. The celery (Apium graveolens) seed extract was given to the treated rats for recovery and blood levels of liver enzymes were seen to return back to normalcy.
