O knihe
Many cities in emerging countries are growing rapidly and will reach unprecedented levels in the next few decades. Nairobi is one such mega city in the Sub-Saharan African with a population of about 4 million. Challenges of meeting water and sanitation needs, including technology selection and governance strategies are rampant and overstretch the local government capacity. Climate change effects exacerbate the increasingly variable water-scarce circumstances which need appropriate measures in solution designs of a water and sanitation system for the city. The City of Nairobi requires adaptation responses to development planning and improvements in water and sanitation, as a way of addressing climate change (a key stressor on water quality, quantity and availability) which impacts on the poor. This book identifies some new coherences and improvement measures that are important in the evaluation of the impacts of planned development on water and sanitation projects. Further, recognition of possible development strategies and enhancement of public and policy makers' awareness to deal with the future is vital.
