This research was conducted in the northern region of Bangladesh under the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Shahjalal University of Science and Technology, Bangladesh to determine the Urban Heat Islands as a micro-climatic evidence of global warming at a local scale. However, the researcher worked about three years continuously from 2008 to 2010 to understand the urban heat island phenomenon as well as its effects and impacts over the people, environment, biodiversity and property of the northern region of Bangladesh. Professor Dr. M. Aktarul Islam Chowdhury, Head, Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Shahjalal University of Science and Technology, Bangladesh contributed a lot in this study through his inspiring guidance, constant supervision, and enthusiastic encouragement to continue the work. Mr. Salahuddin Ahmmed, National Expert, United Nation Industrial Development Organization, Bangladesh also made a wide range of assistance to fulfill the research work in a success.
