In Zanzibar, as in all countries, road accidents are increasing over time, public transport vehicles appear to be involved in a higher proportion of accidents. However, public transport cover a high number of passengers transported. The results of the study show- in 2009, a total of 583 RTI were reported compared to 2010, (692 RTI) - a 19% increase. In 2009, there were 55 deaths (9.4%) out of 583 RTI compared to 54 (7.8%) out of 692 in 2010. Records from traffic police identified deaths with total of 55 and 54 from RTA in urban Unguja in 2009 and 2010. Accident admission by age and sex, 2009-2010 - Adult Male was 66%, Female 10%, Child Male 17% and Female 7%. In 2010, Male was 65%, Female 13%, child Male 12% and 8%. The total admissions cases by categories 2009-2010, respectively: drivers from a total of 3% to 4%; passengers from a total of 17% to 23%; pedestrians from a total of 39% to 35%; motorcycle from a total of 24% to 23% and bicycles from a total of 18% to 15%.
