Dame Vera Margaret Welch CH DBE OStJ, known professionally as Vera Lynn, born on 20th March 1917, East Ham, Essex, England, UK is a singer of traditional pop, songwriter and actress, whose musical recordings and performances were extremely popular during the Second World War. She's widely known as "the Forces' Sweetheart" for giving outdoor concerts to the troops in Egypt, India, and Burma during the war as part of Entertainments National Service Association (ENSA).
