Anscombe, Georg Henrik von Wright, Jacques Maritain, Martha Nussbaum, Philippa Foot, Roderick Long, Rosalind Hursthouse, Thomas Aquinas, Yves Simon. Excerpt: Thomas Aquinas, O.P. ( -n¿s; 1225 - 7 March 1274), also Thomas of Aquin or Aquino, was an Italian Dominican priest, and an immensely influential philosopher and theologian in the tradition of scholasticism, within which he is also known as the "Dumb Ox", "Angelic Doctor", "Doctor Communis", and "Doctor Universalis". Thomas was born in Roccasecca, in the Aquino county of the Kingdom of Sicily (present-day Lazio region, Italy), circa January 28, 1225. According to some authors, he was born in the castle of his father, Landulf of Aquino. Thomas's fat
