While that is the public perception, residents say they live in the county to enjoy life's simple pleasures--visiting friends, watching softball games, or taking drives in the country. Washington County was made up of 35 separate communities, now anchored by the incorporated towns of Springfield, the county seat; Willisburg; and Mackville.
