The point of view throughout is that of the English learner, hence grammatical rules which are the same in both languages are not emphasised, while special stress is laid upon idiomatic usages in which the two languages differ essentially. In the first part, which deals with the accidence, considerable attention has been given to the clear presentment Of tabular matter. This part also contains some elementary rules of syntax which will be found in an extended and amplified form in the second portion of the book.
The arrangement, both Of the Accidence and of the Syntax, follows the traditional order of the parts of speech; but this order may very well be modified by the student, who should endeavour to master the main outlines of the subject before attempting to assimilate masses of detail.
