In the second place, I shall notice what belonged to his moral and religious character.
In the strict evangelical sense, mr. Evarts was a good man. His life afforded the most satisfactory evidence that he had been born again; that he had experienced the renewing of the Holy Ghost that he repented of sin, and that, from a deep sense of guilt and misery, he believed in Christ as the only Saviour; that he had communion with God, and rendered sincere and habitual obedience to his commands.
