The present study has been divided into four parts. In the very part, a modest attempt is made to discuss the history of Indian English fiction, background of Indian novel, Vikram Seth¿s, and Arundhati Roy¿s place in the literary scenario. The second part is a study of the various innovative techniques and analysis of Vikram Seth¿s The Golden Gate. It is a tale in the oral tradition where in the listeners are acutely involved in the story and at the same time aware that it is not for real.
