Not only since Stuttgart 21 it has been clear that the participation of stakeholders in urban and regional planning is becoming increasingly important. Acceptance problems have been known in nature conservation since the 1980s. Can participation and transdisciplinarity help? On the basis of a conflicting nature conservation project, this study investigates communication and cooperation processes in detail: How should the participation of stakeholders be structured so that acceptance can be achieved? The author was able to show that forms of cooperation must be used differently depending on the addressees in order not to have a counterproductive effect in the final result. She shows how this differentiation can be made.
