O knihe
People living with disability have faced various access barriers since time immemorial. The Kenyan government has enacted various legislations advocating for equitable access for this segment of the population. Focus was on the extent to which the bus terminus was accessible to learners with physical disability in the western part of Kenya who frequently used bus termini in the trip to school. Within these facilities, these learners faced numerous design barriers which impeded their mobility and independence. This book explored the various design barriers experienced by the learners. Various five point likert scales were used to evaluate the extent to which the built up environment in the various bus termini was accessible. Respondents were drawn from learners enrolled in special schools in the western part. They were far removed from the residences of the learners - thereby necessitating travel. Focus was on the major bus termini in the western part of Kenya. These termini were located in Kisumu, Kakamega, Bungoma and Kendu Bay. This study established that the learners experienced various barriers present in drop offs, pavements of the bus termini and improper washroom layout.
