The semi-mountainous region of western Côte d'Ivoire is occupied by three ethnocultural areas, the WE, the DAN and the MAHOU. It is home to more than 10% of the Ivorian population. The population, 70% of which is rural, is mainly engaged in farming. Two large rivers, the Sassandra and the Cavally, drain the region. It is the highest region of the country with peaks of more than 1000 meters (Mount Tonkpi, 1189 meters). We note that: 1) Biankouma is the most mountainous department. 2) Land is transferred from father to son (patrilineal); 3) Rudimentary agriculture is practiced with the daba, the machete, the axe, the file, the knife, the sickle... 4) The head of the family, the head of the farm, uses a family workforce The farming systems identified are the rice-based farming system, the industrial crop-based farming system (coffee/cocoa) and the root and tuber-based farming system; 5) The good rainfall, the relative richness of the soil in some places, the hydrographic network, and the diversity of speculations are potentialities to be exploited.
