O knihe
This book compares the political, social and historical conditions of the State of Iraq at the time of Daesh's territorial expansion with the political, social and historical conditions present today in the State of Mali. The analysis uses John M. Berger's model of extremism, the various sociological theories that accompany it, and other analyses of the presence of foreign powers in weak states. The analysis through this model allows us to see how group identities have been forged in both Iraq and Mali, how these groups have entered into conflict at times sponsored by foreign powers, and how jihadi organizations have taken advantage of the inter-group conflict to swell their ranks, legitimize themselves, and in the case of Daesh, expand to found a Caliphate in the Middle East. After establishing similarities and differences between the cases of Iraq and Mali, it is determined whether an expansion similar to that of Daesh and led by jihadist groups could take place in Malian territory.
