Antioxidants stop these reactions by eliminating the free radical intermediates, and they also prevent other oxidation reactions by going through the process of oxidation.The oral cavity is a special region. An important protective barrier between internal and exterior surroundings is the oral mucosa.Antioxidants play a role in the later stages of cancer development. DNA damage is considered to be one of the most important contributors to cancer. Much of this damage is oxidative in nature. Antioxidants may be able to cause the regression of premalignant lesions or inhibit their development into cancer.
