Andrew (Ancient Greek "brave, brave, man") - one of the 12 apostles, brother of Simon Peter. He was a disciple of John the Baptist, whom he left to follow Jesus Christ. The number 12 meant the ancient number of the tribes of Israelites, which in turn goes back to the deification of the moon, which changes 12 phases during the year. In the Byzantine tradition Apostle Andrew is called the First-Called to prove the primacy of the Byzantine (Orthodox) Church. Apostle Andrew is mentioned first in the Gospel of John only once, and Simon Peter is mentioned first in all other Gospels.
