O knihe
Admitting the unavoidable myriad destructive effects of acid violence, the study aimed to ascertain the prevention, protection, rehabilitation, the legal status of survivor's life. The brutal violence not only spoiled survivor's physical and mental strength, but also deteriorated economic and social sustainability. Thus the consequences included disfigurement, disability, chronic poverty, isolation from family and community etc. The survivors, however, had been deprived from basic civic amenities and human rights. Findings of the study also revealed that over the period 1999 to 2009, average three hundred people had been attacked annually by acid violence in Bangladesh. Of the total survivors, approximately two-third was female, 65 percent had been living under poverty line and half of them did not study at any level of education. Even though the government, development organizations, civil societies provided diverse support - medical, rehabilitation, and legal - to get back their normal life, the survivors were not empowered socially and economically. As such, the survivors demanded further medical, rehabilitation, and legal support in order to improve their condition.
