Jason's upbringing did not teach him what it actually meant to be a Christian, only that to him, it was enough for him to be called himself a Christian by going to church every Sunday and believing that Mary had a Son named Jesus, who was the Christ. Thirkiel, is an Angel of the Heavenly Host! He is the leader of the Band of Angels whose headquarters was in the attic of the pastor's church, unknown and unseen by the pastor and the congregation. Jason finally learns what it really means to be a born-again believer one day too late.
