Samantha leaves Boston and the man she loves and settles in the hills of Kentucky on the West Virginia border. She hopes to find the refuge she needs to mend her broken heart. One night at the local bar Samantha meets Robert. This man is a complete mystery to her but the more he attaches himself to Samantha the more she wants to know about him.
After being in the community a short while Samantha finds out that many of the occupants who live in the hills surrounding her are into drugs and after falling in love with Robert she discovers that dark side of him which he kept hidden from her - he too is an addict and a drunk.
She doesn't know what to do when she finds Robert snorting drugs. Loving him is not enough and she knows she cannot continue suffering this way. She has to make a choice before her own sanity cracked under the strain of loving Robert and watching him continue habits she abhors.
Robert doesn't want to change he needs the drugs and booze to get through the days and Samantha feels like she's being pulled in two directions. Part of her is trying to escape from him whilst the other part of her wants to be with him.
In the process of trying to get him to straighten up three people Samantha knew through Robert die and two of those were from Oxycotin the killer drug sweeping the nation, the drug that gives you a high like Heroin.
Samantha begins to feel as if the whole place is closing in on her. She finds it hard trying to deal with the situation between them. She wants to run away from Robert and his problems but can she? ..........
Then her life changes.
