Though ecosystems like mangroves, coral reefs and seagrass beds are getting recognition as important coastal ecosystems and shoreline stabilizers, sandy beaches and sand dunes do not get adequate attention as important coastal ecosystems in their own right, and their role in stabilizing the coastline is mostly overlooked.
