English may be the biggest obstacle to learning Greek! Greek textbooks use jargon such as ""noun,"" ""verb,"" ""morphology,"" and ""syntax,"" which sometimes sounds foreign. Many of us may remember them from grade school, but the memories may now be foggy from time and disuse. This book is written for hazy memories of English that need a brush up before learning Greek.
Different than other aids to learning Greek, Brushing Up English to Learn Greek introduces verbal aspect to beginning students. English emphasizes the time of an action but Greek emphasizes the point of view--or aspect--of an action. This book helps students build a bridge of understanding between the different thought worlds of English and Greek.
""One of the many things that I have learned in thirty years of language instruction is that most students begin to learn English grammar when they study Greek. A great guide both to students and professors, this book is a great textbook and reference work for those pursuing Greek. As a bonus, each chapter begins with a helpful devotional. I am grateful for Perry's book.""
--Tom Parker, Director, Fuller Theological Seminary Southwest, Phoenix, AZ
""Wow! What a great resource from a master teacher who knows how to explain unfamiliar concepts, relate them to what the student already knows, and gives examples, exercises, and charts to make them crystal clear--all of it organized so that it does not overwhelm. Every English-speaking student of Greek should have a copy of this handy little guide to help make sense, step by step, of the New Testament in its original language.""
