In 1853, the courthouse burned destroying all probate records. The author has used many sources such as newspapers, Cemetery/Church and court records to complete this work. Many of her early settler were from northern Georgia and Fairfield County, SC. The author has even included numerous Family sketches of persons from the county: Anthony, Austin, Barge, Benson, Butler (3), Caldwell, Cooper, Crittenden, Dunham, Eskew, Flowers, Gandy, Glasgow, Lazenby, Lloyd, McKellar, Milner, Nix, Pitts, Poole, Porter, Reynolds, Seale, Sims, Stallings (3), Stevenson, Urquhart, and Wimbrey.
